Everything you need to know about the Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 | Traxion

While Fanatec’s list of steering wheels and wheel bases seems to have expanded at a rapid rate of late, with exciting real-world tie-ins, its line of pedals hasn’t seen much of an update. Until today.

The Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 are a new addition to the range, replacing the venerable – now nearly six years old – existing set.

The main component of a set is undoubtedly the brake pedal. How it performs, feels and delivers feedback are essential to lowering lap times. For the V2, this has been updated.

With the previous CSL Elites, out of the box you received two pedals, and then an upgradable load cell kit was an optional extra that also included a dedicated brake pedal. Now, this is all one unit, three pedals and load cell out of the box.

The pressure-based system itself is rated at 90kg of force at the plate, the same number as the previous Load Cell Kit, but its design and operation are all-new.

The response can be adjusted, as three elastomers – with 65, 75 and 85 Shore hardness – are included, adjustment for which does not require the use of tools. A second, firmer, metal spring is also included, should you prefer.

An element that does require a tool, which is included, is adjusting the three pedals left to right along the base. Hopefully, this adjustability helps you find your preferred set-up.

The pedal arms, faces and heel rest are made from cast and machined aluminium, all in the same powder-coated finish, for a visual look similar to the existing model. The snazzy Fanatec-branded rubber pedal faces can be removed for differing levels of friction.

However, additional bracing has been added to the rear of the device, which Fanatec claims adds additional stability under heavy load.

This time around, the throttle and clutch pedals use hall-effect magnetic sensors, as opposed to potentiometers, and are similar to the recent entry-level CSL Pedals. In theory, this contactless system makes for less wear on the sensor long term.

The Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 cost €299,95, $299,95 USD and $499,95 AUD. For comparison’s sake, the combination of the CSL Elite Pedals V1 plus the optional Load Cell Kit was €229.90 at launch way back in 2016.

As ever, this new pedal set is compatible with PC, PlayStation and Xbox. On PC, they work with all compatible Fanatec wheel bases or as a standalone input device via USB. For consoles, they connect to the Fanatec wheel base, provided that wheel base and/or steering wheel is PlayStation or Xbox compatible.

The Fanatec CSL Elite Pedals V2 are available, today, 19th September 2022, via the Fanatec website and we will have a quick hands-on impressions video soon on the Traxion.GG YouTube Channel.
