Kits aid evaluation of Hall current sensors - EDN

Development kits from Melexis come with a variety of Hall-effect current sensors for testing different magnetic configurations. One kit allows engineers to experiment with arrangements that employ Hall sensors with integrated magnetic concentrators (IMCs) with or without shielding, while the other kit explores conventional core-based Hall devices. These plug-and-play kits simplify the validation of hardware using different sensor capabilities over various current-sensing ranges.

The DVK for IMC Hall includes the MLX91208 and MLX91216 current sensors, plus the recently launched MXL91218. The DVK for conventional Hall comes with the MLX91209, MLX91211, MLX91217, and MLX91219 current sensors. These effectively cover Melexis’ second generation of external primary current sensors.

3D-printed holders are provided with the kits to keep the shields and cores (if applicable) firmly in place. Engineers no longer have to build their own fixtures, saving both time and effort. Materials used in the kits are capable of handling temperatures up to 170°C. The development kits also include bus bars, which simplify the setup process.

Both the IMC Hall and conventional Hall development kits are available through the Melexis distributor network.
