Vishay has introduced three series of 24V surface-mount transient voltage suppressors (TVS) that offer peak pulse power dissipation equivalent to the 7kW of conventional TVS at 10/1000μs in SMC (DO-214AB) packaging and 10/10,000 μs in DO-218AB, it said.

The bidirectional devices work over -55 to +175°C for automotive, telecom and industrial applications.

With 24V maximum clamping, XMC7K24CA series offers 180A peak pulse at 10/1,000μs in SMC.

With 26V maximum clamping, XLD5A24CA and XLD8A24CA series offer 120A and 180A peak at 10/10,000μs, “which is equivalent to the 4.6kW and 7kW power ratings of conventional TVS, respectively, in the DO 218AB package”, said Vishay.

There are AEC-Q101 qualified versions for automotive use (load dump protection is one suggested application), and breakdown ranges from 26.7 to 29.5V over the operating temperature range.

Other applications are against inductive load switching and lightning, and signal line protection in industrial robot arms and telecom systems.

For applications with stand-off voltages greater than 24V – such as 48V mild hybrid electric vehicle belt starter generators and integrated starter generators – the above parts can be paired in series with a standard TVS.

The devices are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, and offer a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of 1 in accordance with J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of 245°C.
