FITCHBURG — Calling all artists in Fitchburg Public Schools, the fourth annual Dog License Poster Contest is now open to entries.

Sponsored by Leominster/Fitchburg Animal Control, Fitchburg City Clerk, Fitchburg Police Department, Be PAWSitive Therapy Pets, and Friends of Fitchburg Dogs, students in grades 1 through 6 are invited to create an original image reflecting the theme – “Love your dog. License your dog.”

No tracing, collages, digitally-produced images.

“Color may be used, markers are preferable as winning posters will be copied and distributed in the community,” said Sally Cragin. “No need to write the slogan, as we will be using your image only.”

All entries must fit on 8 ½- by 11-inch paper and oriented vertically.

The student’s name, school, and parent’s name, address, e-mail, and phone number must appear on the back of the poster in pencil.

Once completed, students can bring their poster(s) to their principal’s office at Reingold, Crocker, Longsjo, Memorial and McKay schools by Monday, March 13. The winning poster will be announced later in March.

Prizes include a trophy and goodie bags. Many honorable mentions will be chosen, along with the design that becomes the poster.

“The purpose of this contest is to educate students and their families about the importance of licensing their dog for the safety of the community,” Cragin said. “If your dog gets lost, a dog license, helps the dog get back home.”
